From the moment you step into this North London townhouse, designed by interior designer Aisha Subhani, it’s clear this is no ordinary home. It’s a layered symphony of texture, culture, and thoughtful curation - a project that feels personal yet elegant.

Subhani’s client, a well-traveled family with a deep love for global design, asked for something cohesive yet compelling. “They wanted a space that felt curated,” Aisha explains. “Not just beautiful, but meaningful - every element with a story.” Take the full video tour for a walkthrough of this project.

The entrance sets the tone: soaring ceilings, layered lighting, and a bespoke pendant fixture designed by Aisha in collaboration with Curiosa. “I wanted the light to touch every level,” she says, “to immediately draw your eye up and give the sense that this home is full of moments.”

The first reception room sets the tone as a pre-dinner gathering space, where a vintage Murano chandelier shimmers overhead.. Subhani transformed existing bookshelves into towering niches for Quranic calligraphy with each piece layered over textural concrete panels from Spain.

“I didn’t want the artwork to just sit on the wall,” she says. “It needed depth, shadows, contrast. Everything had to be intentional.”

This is a home where every piece speaks - sometimes softly, sometimes with unapologetic boldness. The second lounge features a coral velvet sectional and a gallery wall of collected artworks, each handpicked after the furniture and lighting were installed. “We sourced art after the bones of the space were there,” Aisha says. “We wanted the walls to tell stories too.”

For the client’s personal office, Aisha embraced mood and color. A deep green palette forms the base, offset by rich textures and layered lighting. The standout feature? A vintage sofa that was reupholstered and repurposed, maintaining its sentimental value while fitting seamlessly into the newly designed space.

Custom rugs from Pakistan ground each room, each woven over years by master artisans. “These aren’t just rugs. They’re heirlooms,” she says.

Where the rest of the home is layered and textural, the bedroom is serene and stripped-back. A four-poster bed and a concrete wall panel create a contrast that’s both grounded and graceful. Teal accents and sheer curtains soften the room without losing structure. “It’s a space for peace,” she says. “No clutter. Just calm.”

“Design isn’t about following rules,” Subhani says. “It’s about listening - listening to the space, the client, the emotion behind each piece.”
