Finding a sofa under $1,000 isn’t that difficult, but finding one that looks good, feels good and will last longer than a few months is where things get a little harder. The truth is that it’s rare you’ll be able to get the highest quality materials at this price range, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still great options available – it's just about knowing what to look for and how to choose.

We focused on sofas with good construction quality that also look good and feel good, and these are the picks we landed on that don't feel like compromises.

How We Choose

We choose the best sofas under $1000 by narrowing down the best options on the market based on build quality, comfort and durability. We then either test them in showrooms or gather long-term feedback directly from customers and our readers, who have lived with these sofas for long enough to understand how well they perform after years of daily use. If we can’t find enough long-term feedback, the sofa doesn’t make the list.

Best Overall: IKEA Kivik Sofa

If you want an everyday sofa that works well and looks good, then this is a great option. It’s been a staple in IKEA’s lineup for years and for good reason too. Though it doesn’t have the most luxurious construction you’ll ever sit on, the pocket springs give it more bounce and support than a basic foam sofa and the cushion covers are removable and machine washable, which is a huge bonus if you have kids, pets, or are just a person who eats snacks on the couch (I don’t judge).

What we love: Reliable and good value

Good to know:
Cushions are on the firmer side

Best Sectional: IKEA Saltsjöbaden Sofa

The Saltsjöbaden is essentially the return of one of IKEA’s most popular sofas known as the Karlstad, that was discontinued years ago. The boxy, Scandi-modern silhouette is supportive without feeling stiff and the cushions hold their shape over time due to the pocket-spring construction that maximizes comfort. You can choose how you want to arrange the sofa based on your space and preferences, making it one of the more flexible picks on this list. Just like all IKEA slipcover sofas, you can swap out covers entirely whenever you want a refresh.

What we love: Covers are fully washable

Good to know:
Could use more support feet in the center – an easy fix if you're handy

Best for Small Spaces: Burrow Nomad Loveseat

The loveseat version of the Burrow Nomad is the perfect pick for anyone working with a smaller space – it fits comfortably in apartments, studios, home offices, and smaller living rooms and looks good while doing so. One of my favorite things about this sofa has to be the modular design because it allows for your space to grow with you, with the option to expand it into a larger sofa or sectional.

What we love: Reversible cushions and flexibility

Good to know:
It’s not a sink-in couch which might be an issue if you like to lounge

Best Sleeper: IKEA Grunnarp Sofa

The IKEA Grunnarp is contemporary with a Scandinavian look and doesn't scream "this doubles as a guest bed". Some sleeper sofas have a reputation for being uncomfortable to sit on and even worse to sleep on, but this isn’t one of them. Medium firm cushions provide solid back support and there’s plenty of storage underneath the seat for bedding.

What we love: Easy to assemble and 10-year warranty

Good to know:
On the firmer side but still comfortable

Best Reclining: Ashley Danum Reclining Sofa

The Danum keeps things simple with a pull tab recline on both ends, so there’s no power cord needed and no motor to worry about. Unlike most recliners, it has a stylish look that doesn't feel dated and boxy, and at $899, its definitely worth the soft lounging experience that it provides.

Best for Lounging: Article Ceni Sofa

The Article Ceni is a little above our $1,000 ceiling, but I think it’s close enough that it deserves a mention. It’s a good-looking sofa with a frame that's made from real wood making it a sturdy choice at a reasonable price. The cushions are made from high-density foam and supported by sinuous springs, so it's also durable too.

What we love: Stylish and durable

Good to know:
It has a low seat height
