London-based interior designer, Enass Mahmoud, has created a sophisticated concept apartment in Victoria.

The client’s brief was to create a boutique hotel vibe and Studio Enass has certainly delivered. The much-loved studio is known for its unique, eclectic designs that push the boundaries of modern design.

The entire apartment brims with sophistication and elegance yet remains cosy and inviting. The dark blue colour scheme flows seamlessly through each room, resulting in a space that feels beautiful yet suitably masculine.

The heart of the home is the living area, where the lounge and kitchen meet. At the far end of the room, double doors open out onto a balcony, letting natural light flood into the space. All four walls are painted dark in the shade Hague Blue by Farrow and Ball, which is continued across the ceiling.

Enass says, “This created a great base to layer everything else on. Sometimes people might be sceptical about using dark colours in small spaces, but we had the luxury of a lot of natural daylight.”

For the soft furnishings, statement pieces have been carefully selected in rich jewel tones to create an elegant look. The star of the show is a gorgeous burnt orange velvet sofa which creates a playful contrast against the dark blue wall behind.

Instead of a traditional coffee table, Enass has chosen a foot stool covered in complimentary blue and orange geometric fabric. The same material as the sofa is piped around the edge of the stool to bring the room together.

Underfoot is a lovely, large cream rug which softens the hard flooring and lifts the otherwise dark scheme.

The room is accessorised using a colour scheme of mustard, brass and wood. Eclectic cushions, frames, artwork and vases are tastefully displayed on the walls and media cabinet and the carefully curated accessories create moments of visual interest around the room.

In the kitchen, the stunning dark blue colour palette is mirrored in the wall and cabinetry, creating a sense of continuity that unifies the open-concept living area.

Turquoise crackle glazed tiles make the perfect splash back and allow natural light to bounce across the room, adding texture and subtle variation to the scheme.

"As the kitchen opens up into the living space, we wanted it to flow, but at the same time to have it's own moment" explains Enass.

A white marble countertop and warm walnut shelves balance out the darkness of the space while brushed brass taps and handles give a polished finish.

Unique artwork and handmade ceramics are displayed to give a considered, homely feel, reinforcing the apartment's overarching design principle that practical spaces can still be beautiful and personal.

The dark blue walls extend into the master bedroom, where Enass has crafted an intimate sanctuary that balances drama with tranquility. The rich tones create depth in this more private space, establishing a cocoon-like atmosphere where the feeling of being in a boutique hotel is ever present.

At the centre of the room is a luxurious double bed. Stylish walnut panelling is used behind the bed to create an interesting headboard that extends to the ceiling and makes the room feel taller.

This atmospheric bedroom is gently lit with warm wall lamps on either side of the bed and a stylish table lamp on the dresser.

Enass explains, “Lighting has a huge impact when we’re designing and it’s very important to have light bouncing on every corner of the room.”

A selection of orange and brown cushions in a mix of shapes and patterns make the space feel inviting and warm. The curtains are contrasting but complimentary, in a heavy material that adds extra drama.

Working with a small space, functionality was an important consideration. In the corner by the window is a floating wooden dressing table. An oversized round mirror set against the same wooden panelling as the headboard rebalances the space and ties the room together.

Enass says, “I love this space because it’s beautiful. It’s small but it adds that luxury to the room.”

The thoughtful integration of brass fixtures, from kitchen hardware to bedroom switches, creates a cohesive thread that ties each room together.

This attention to detail extends to the carefully selected textiles, artwork, and accessories that bring personality to the space.

The last room in the apartment is the bathroom. Although it’s the smallest space, it certainly isn’t an afterthought.

The client wanted to avoid boring white marble flooring and walls, sticking with their preferred dark colour scheme. As per the kitchen and bedroom, the walls are all painted dark blue.

Inside the shower, the walls are tiled in striking black marble with subtle white veins. The basin splashback uses the same dark blue ceramic tiles as the kitchen, making the whole apartment flow thoughtfully.

Modern brushed brass hardware is used for the radiator, taps, mirror, toilet roll holder and flush panel. Softer touches are displayed on a built-in shelf – a wooden trinket dish, vase of flowers, a candle and neutral artwork.
